Here it is again, folks. The turn of a new month and it is time to look back on what the world of music was up to in October 2016, at least my world. As Christmas is well and truly on it’s way, there has been a lot of new music being released to the masses and so this means there is a lot of competition. Who has been the most played artist of October 2016? Who had the most played album, maybe the two are the same? Most importantly, what was the most played song of October 2016 and yes, you should go and listen to it if you haven’t already. Let’s get right to it, then…
So OneRepublic have climbed up one place from last month’s #2 position to claim October’s most played artist. Well done to them, they have really delivered a knockout with their recent album and it has been receiving a lot of plays recently, will it also be this month’s most played album?
Also in the Top 10, we see Lady Gaga making a big return by getting a total of 100 plays last month, mostly down to her most recent album “Joanne” being released. The album has had mixed reviews but I have to say I do find it very pleasant to the ears and it is great to hear Gaga stripped back and almost sounding country in places. I have also been playing her first single from the album a lot, “Perfect Illusion”, will we also see that in the Top 10 most played songs?
Other Top 10 appearances come from All Saints, who I saw live earlier in the month and loved it, you can see my review on that live show here, we also see Joseph, Shawn Mendes and Rebecca Ferguson all enter the Top 10 after not being featured previously. They all have new albums out which have been regularly played. Last months #1, Britney Spears, slips two places down to #3 but still had a whopping 107 plays in total last month.
So, most played album is next…
OneRepublic have done it again and has the double whammy, they are both the most played artist and have the most played album of October 2016. If you haven’t heard the album already, you really need to change that right now. It is packed to the brim full of hits and has so many different genres of music all blended into one. The album conjured up a total of 127 plays last month, and also pushed Britney Spears’ “Glory” down to #5 in the rankings. You can check out the new album on Apple Music by clicking here.
Other albums in the Top 10 this month include “Following My Intuition”, the new album by the King of garage, Craig David. Joseph, who are an acoustic folk pop band hybrid have delivered a superb album in the form of “I’m Alone, No You’re Not” which enters at #4 this month. We also see the new album by Lady Gaga deservedly entering the Top 10 to land at #7 with a combined amount of plays of 68. The album only got released at the end of October so I very much expect it will be in next weeks rundown too.
I also wanted to write about this months #10 most played album, an album called “My Universe” by The Shires. The Shires are a country duo who hail from the UK but bring the best sounds of Nashville in their music, they are criminally underrated and this album is superb. This is the kind of music which the UK really needs to buy into, and I have been hearing rumours (take them with a pinch of salt) that they want to try and represent the UK at next years Eurovision Song Contest, they would make an excellent choice in my opinion.
So, now it’s time to throw it down and dance along to this month’s most played song. You know what to do, click play on the following video:
So there you have it, the full rundown of the most played tracks in my iTunes collection. Little Mix have bounced back on to the music scene with their brand new single “Shout Out To My Ex” which is so full of bubblegum you can hear it pop. The song is an ode to all of the ex’s in your life, the ones that let you down. Many people can relate to the song and it is also extremely catchy, well played girls. This makes the first time that Little Mix have been #1 in my most played lists, their new album is out next month.
Also in the Top 10, we see the singles from The Weeknd “Starboy”, Calvin Harris “My Way”, Sia “The Greatest”, Years & Years “Meteorite” and Lady Gaga with “Perfect Illusion”. All of these songs are big hits on the radio right now and it is no surprise that they are all featured in my Top 10. Apart from “Kids” by OneRepublic which has dropped from last month’s #1 to this month’s #4, all of the songs featured in the Top 10 are all brand new entries. Will the same pattern follow next month?
