Apple Products Bonanza (2016)

So a few days ago on the 7th September, all eyes were on Tim Cook and Apple once again for the expected announcement of the new iPhone. It has definitely become an annual even every September for the unveiling of the new iPhone and this year was no different.

Let’s take a look at the new Apple products on offer.

So live from San Francisco, Tim Cook addressed a public forum and millions of people across the globe watching live online about what to expect from the most recent Apple products. There was even a special themed Carpool Karaoke with James Corden before the main event aswell, you can check that out below…

First of all, there was the announcement that Nintendo were working closely with Apple and has developed it’s first game for the platform as well, Super Mario Run. This is the first time ever that Nintendo have developed a game for another platform other than it’s own, an exciting moment for all gaming fans in the world. The new game isn’t available yet but from the previews it does look amazingly fun, and it will be so cool to play Mario on my iPhone or iPad as well.

So then it was the annoucement of the brand new Apple Watch, and what an announcement that was. It did take me a long time to get succumbed into buying an Apple Watch, mainly because my argument has been that you can take your iPhone with you everywhere and do more with that anyway. How wrong was I? I rely on my Apple Watch a lot for my fitness, especially with recently joining and going a lot more to my gym, it comes in so handy. I also love that you can easily see notifications straight away on the watch too, so if there are any important messages to reply to, I will see them straight away instead of waiting until I have a chance to check my phone. Anyway, the new Apple Watch offers me a lot more than the previous generation. Firstly, this is completely and utterly waterproof and you can finally go swimming with it without the fear of it breaking. Not only that, but it now also tracks your swimming lengths much like all the other types of fitness that you could use with it previously. The new watch also has it’s own built in GPS, so there is even less relying on the phone for this information. For example, if I wanted to go for a run or bike ride but wanted to leave my phone at home, then it’s all good as the watch will still know exactly where I am and can pick up those all important route maps for reflection.

So now, the big one. The brand new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. I have to say it, the glossy black colour that they were showing off is looking very sexy and is a welcome addition to the line-up of colours for their producrs. For me, the iPhone 7 Plus is more impressive than the normal iPhone 7, mainly because of the camera. The new iPhone 7 Plus has a dual lens camera, which is fantastic for taking ranged photographs both in the day time and night time. The way that Apple are touting it, is that this is as impressive of a camera as your DLR camera that you would use for your high quality photographs, fantastic news for camera lovers. Some of the sample photos that were shown looked very impressive, with night time shots looking so much more dynamic than before. The other big addition to the new phones is that Force Touch is coming to the home button, no more clicking if you don’t want to! I don’t know about you, but I am always trying to avoid clicking the home button in case it stops working, it always feels so fragile. Fear no more though. It’s all about the force touch and the haptic feedback, a very welcome addition in my eyes.

The big thing to take away from both of the new products being launched is that they are all waterproof, with the new Apple Watch being more waterproof than the iPhone, but at the same time, both would be able to withstand a downpour of rain with ease and still be used. You could also drop them into the sink or down the toilet (that has happened!) and they will still work to perfection, without trying to find some rice to try and drain the phone in afterwards. All we need now is for the screen to be smash proof and we will be on to a winner, not that it isn’t already but y’know!

Things are getting waterproofed around here.

With the iPhone, the big news this year is that they are dropping the headphone jack once and for all. The good news is that all is not lost, they will provide both a lightning cable headphones and a lightning cable adaptor for your listening cravings. I personally will use the new headphones which plug straight into the lightning socket, but the offer is there to use the adaptor as well for old headphones should I wish to. Luckily for me, I do have a lot of bluetooth speakers and headphones so I am going to be OK without the headphone jack for the most part. What has annoyed me a bit about Apple though this time around is that they are now selling what’s called “airpods” and they are wireless, connects with bluetooth on your Apple products, and do look a bit odd. They are basically the old earpods which came with your old iPhone, but with no cabling, and they just go straight into your ear. Things would be OK if this was a cheap item to purchase to go with your new iPhone, but no, in the UK alone you are looking at parting with just over £100 for these. Honestly, do not do this, there are so many better bluetooth headphones/earphones out there, including handy waterproof ones if you wanted to go swimming with your new Apple Watch (i.e. me) as well.

So for the most part, the conference was a success. I think a lot of people were WOW’ed by the new lineup of products, me included of course. Luckily, my phone contract with O2 means that I get the new phone every year without paying anything extra which is pretty cool. I am definitely going to be getting the iPhone 7 Plus to take some amazing photos and will most probably be getting the new Apple Watch too, I have been looking at the NIKE+ themed one as an addition to my wrist most of all.

The singer Sia sang out at the closing of the conference and she was pretty cool too, am I the only one who didn’t have her down as being an Apple fan though?
