Gosh, that is another month done. We seem to be sailing through 2016 again as if it was light speed. We are now in March and this is the month when we welcome spring, which is usually the exciting part of the year in many ways. I am hoping for some nicer weather to go out cycling in, we shall see though.
Anyway, so you know the drill. This is my second Music of the Month blog of 2016 and it’s time to look back at the music which has been lighting up my life recently. Let’s not waste any more time, here is my Top Artist of February 2016.
Yes, you guessed it. Coldplay have stormed their way to the top this month after a triumphant month of performing at the BRIT Awards and also at the Super Bowl half-time show earlier in the month. I have been absolutely obsessed with their recent album “A Head Full Of Dreams” and if you haven’t checked it out yet, then you should go and do this now. I will be seeing Coldplay live on their latest worldwide tour in June and believe me when I say that I am so excited for this, not only as they will also be headlining Glastonbury around the same time and so there will be a lot of hype about them around this time. Anyway, here is the full top 10 of the most played artists in February 2016, out of 1081 total artists played.

So, time to take a look at the most played album of February 2016. You would be forgiven for thinking that Coldplay’s latest album which I have just discussed would be at the top, but it’s not. The most played album this month is from an artist who has recently come back into the music fold, after almost 4 years since her previous album. Yes, I have been listening a lot to the new album by Rihanna called “ANTi” which was released at the end of January. The album is mainly R&B and Hip-Hop orientated but it certainly does have a few bangers on there, including the first single called “Work” which also features Drake on vocals. You may want to check out her recent performance of this song at the BRIT Awards which was dazzling from start to finish, here it is.
Go and take a listen to the album if you haven’t already, it’s currently streaming on Apple Music (amongst other streaming platforms) and you can easily listen to it by clicking the album cover below.

So here we go then, the exciting part of my blog. Which song has been played the most in the past month? Well, before I tell you, it’s probably best to explain first.
February is notorious (as all Eurovision fans will know) to be the peak of the National Final season. This is the time when countries all over the continent pick the best song out of selections and then they go on to represent them in the grand contest in May. This February has been no exception, and with Apple Music I have been able to listen to a lot of new songs featured in many of these selections and of course, these then go on to do well in my Last.FM Charts. I expect over the course of March a lot of other songs from these selections will continue to do well, especially as all 28 songs featured in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen competition have also been released.
With this in mind, the most played track from February was a song featured in Austria’s National Final and has also gone on to win, so we will be seeing a lot more of this song in May, when it will be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. The song is entirely in French, which is rather unusual for a song that has come from Austria, whose first language is German. The song is rather sweet though and takes you on a journey, which is probably the idea, considering the song is about taking you away to a paradise. Anyway, rather than me discussing it, let’s just watch the video (which is only a lyric video for info).
Here is the full Top 10 of songs played in February 2016. There was a total of 3016 different tracks played last month and these were the crème de la crème.
- (NE) ZOE – Loin D’ici – 50 plays
- (NE) Justs – Heartbeat – 49 plays
- (NE) Rihanna – Work – 40 plays
- (NE) Dua Lipa – Be The One – 37 plays
- (⬆︎1) Donny Montell – I’ve Been Waiting For This Night – 36 plays
- (NE) Beyoncé – Formation – 36 plays
- (NE) Barei – Say Yay! – 34 plays
- (NE) Jamala – 1944 – 28 plays
- (NE) Francesca Michielin – Nessun Grado Di Separazione – 27 plays
- (NE) ZOE – Adieu – 26 plays
So there you have it, that is my most played tracks of last month. I count in there a grand total of 7 Eurovision related tracks, so you can see how much of an influence the National Final season has had on my listening habits. Stay tuned for this time next month when I will be counting up my listening stats for March.
