‘Tis the season to be jolly indeed. There are only 25 days to go (or should that be 24) until Christmas Day 2015 is upon us. Are you excited? Are you ready for it? I have to admit that this year has gone by so quickly, but the music has been phenomenal to say the least. Shall we take a look at the music that I was digging last month? Let’s do it.
So, to get things started, my most played Artist. Last month, with a clear landslide, my most played Artist was Kylie Minogue. She has recently released her Christmas album packed full of the cheesiest and campest disco Christmas tracks you will ever hear. Needless to say, it has been getting a lot of airplay, and I can imagine that in the next month the amount of plays will be even higher.
You may, or may not, be aware that Kylie recently duetted on live TV with her younger sister Dannii (who I am a massive fan of). It resulted in one of the most intriguing TV moments of all time, and it was broadcast live at the X Factor Australia final show last week. If you missed it, it is on YouTube, so feast your eyes on this.
So, top album? You would be forgiven for thinking that it was the Christmas album by Kylie, but it actually isn’t. In fact, we are travelling back to 1995 (that’s twenty years ago, jeez!) to when an album was released which went to sell millions and millions of copies worldwide. I am of course talking about “Jagged Little Pill” by Alanis Morissette. The album spawned many great tracks, including “Ironic” which has got to be Alanis’ staple track. The album has recently been repackaged with demoes and bonus material, and of course, remastered. I have been listening to this album a lot recently, as a lot of the lyrics I can really relate to at the moment, so here it is, sitting as my most played album of November 2015. If you haven’t heard this album, come out from that rock you’re hiding under, and give this a listen, you will not regret it.
Now, to the exciting and most competitive part of my blog. The most played song. Well, it has really been a tough month as there have been a lot of great songs that I have been really into recently. More on this later, but for now, it’s time to reveal the most played song of November 2015 with 40 plays.
Yes, “Hotline Bling” by Drake is the most played song. A great Hip-Hop smash, with a surprisingly catchy hook has made this song be played time and time again on my iTunes. The video is also really striking too, plus who can resist Drake’s cheesy dance moves. The song has seen off a lot of competition though, as my Top 10 this past month is all new entries, apart from one. There have been new songs released by Coldplay, Guy Sebastian, Fleur East and Justin Bieber that have all been vying for the most played accolade. Shall we take a look at the Top 10 in full? Yes, let’s…
- (NE) Drake – Hotline Bling – 40 plays
- (NE) Justin Bieber – Sorry – 39 plays
- (NE) Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime – 32 plays
- (NE) Fleur East – Sax – 28 plays
- (NE) KDA – Turn The Music Louder (Rumble) – 27 plays
- (⬇︎4) Jack Ü – Where Are Ü Now – 26 plays
- (NE) Ariana Grande – Focus – 25 plays
- (NE) Meghan Trainor – Better When I’m Dancin’ – 22 plays
- (NE) Guy Sebastian – Black & Blue – 21 plays (+1)
- (NE) Nervo – The Other Boys – 21 plays
It goes to show the popularity of “Where Are Ü Now” is so high as this is the third month in a row it has ended up in my Top 10, and weirdly, with 26 plays for the third month running. The song is climbing up my 2015 chart as each month goes on, will it be in the Top 10? The song is also the only song that was in last months countdown, everything else is new, would you believe it!?
On a final note, I have attended a couple of gigs recently. I saw Marina & The Diamonds at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth on the 21st November, and then CHVRCHES on the 27th November at the Alexandra Palace in London. Both gigs were really good fun, and I have been digging both of their back catalogue recently. I will be attending Madonna at the O2 Arena tonight in London, and then tomorrow night I will be seeing Disclosure at the Alexandra Palace again. I am so excited to see Madonna, my ultimate idol, as I have never seen her live before. Will she be my #1 artist next month? In the meantime, check out my videos from the two recent gigs here:
So there we have it, the countdown in full. Don’t forget to click the links to hear the music. There were a lot of strong songs released last month and next month looks to be even more exciting with new releases from Adele and Coldplay looking set to dominate my iTunes plays. It is of course Christmas this month too, so there will be a special yearly countdown coming up, with the monthly blog just before that after Christmas. Stay tuned, and keep listening!
