Music of the Month – September 2015

September sure did go quick, didn’t it? I can’t believe we are only two months away from Christmas, where on earth has this year gone? Honestly, anyone know? MISSING: 2015!

So, here we are again with my up to date Music of the Month blog, direct to your inbox. It’s time to look back on the last month of music and determine which song, artist and album I have loved the most.

Let’s start off with Top Artist, well last month I was clearly loving the phenomenon that is Miley Cyrus. She hosted the MTV VMA’s in Los Angeles back in late August, and then took us all by surprise by releasing a whole new album at the same time, on Soundcloud, free for everybody to listen to and download. The album itself, despite being very weird in places (her devotedness to a dying blowfish?) is also very weirdly addictive. I often have different songs from the album come up on my iTunes and you can’t help but listen, very psychedelic pop if you can call it that. It will come as no surprise to you then, that the album in question, entitled “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” is also at my #1 most played of last month with 94 plays in total. If you would like to find out more about the album and have a cheeky listen, follow the link here to go to Miley’s unique album page. You will be in for some shocks, let me tell you that.

Miley Cyrus and her surprise new album.

So, onwards and upwards, song of the month. I feel like I haven’t really particularly loved one song more than the others this month, and my charts show a very close result, with only 11 places separating the #1 and the #10 positions. Never-the-less, the most played song from last month is actually a song that has been around all summer, but has only just started to rack up the listens on my Apple Music. It is probably the big dance song of the summer, you ready for this? Let’s check out the killer video…

It is of course “Where Are Ü Now” by Skrillex and Diplo (together called Jack Ü and features the vocals of bad boy Justin Bieber. I am not really a fan of the Bieber, but he has actually taken over my listening habits in the past 30 days, as he is also at #2 with his solo hit “What Do You Mean?”. You have to hand it to him, he does come out with some killer songs, I am actually excited to hear his new album out in November. So, the #1 track this month has actually achieved a total of 26 plays, way below the normal average for a #1 track but a good achievement all the same.

Shall we take a look at the Top 10 in full? You can click each link to take you right to the song/artist.

So that is your lot, any of your favourites featured? I have to say that there isn’t much difference to last month, apart from a few new songs. Maybe this will all completely change next month? There is going to be a few new releases out in the coming month, including the new Janet Jackson album which I am really excited about. I am also yet to check out the new Disclosure album which is getting really positive reviews in the press. I am also pleased to be going to see them live in December at the Alexandra Palace in the London, I can imagine it being one hell of a show.
